Mazda Repair: 1985 rx7 wont start, ngk iridium spark plugs, iridium spark plugs

Question
QUESTION: my car was down all winter but i started it up ever couple weeks. now when i try to start it, it turns over but wont start. ive tried starting fluid, cleaning spark plugs and checked for loose wires. the battery was dead so i had it hooked up to another car when trying to start it.

ANSWER: Three concerns;

Are you getting spark at the plugs?
if so, A shot of starting fluid should net some combustion of some sort.

Are you getting fuel?  If it reacts to starting fluid then check for fuel flow.

Is it making compression, when you roll the starter does it lope or free spin like the starter motor.  If so your apex seals may have contracted which will lead to no compression.  If this is the case you will have to introduce a small amount of ATF into the rotor housing and allow it to temporarily expand the apex seals and cause compression, this may be required more than once until it creates compression for you (about 3cc's in each lead plug port).  The ATF will burn off once it starts and smoke the place out so warm the neighbors first.  This is actually good lubrication and assists in cleaning out hydrocarbon build up.  Once it does start keep it running and monitor the temperature, then take it for a good drive using the entire RPM range.

An older rotary should be run up to operating temperature each time it is started.  Ideally driven to temperature which tests and challenges the apex seals keeping them in good working condition.   If your not already, add 2 ounces to every 6 gallons (200:1) of 2 cycle oil to the fuel tank.  This will help stabilize the fuel off season and assist in providing the secondary lubrication the rotary needs during normal use.  Use the NGK Iridium spark plugs for the best longevity.

QUESTION: i went out and bought new spark plugs and when i put starting fluid in it doesnt start up for even a second. just keeps trying to start.

Answer
Check for spark on each plug.  Use a test plug or have a helper ground one while you rotate the starter, look for a strong spark.  Are you getting fuel?

Your used to how it sounds, does it lope when you rotate the starter as normal or seem to rotate freely.  Compression will cause the loping.  If no, then your shy on compression due to the apex seals, follow my previous instruction to lubricate and expand the apex seals.
