hi there i lost the manual for my car and i need to know what type of coolant do i need? is it that necessary to have some in your car? and if it has been empty for a while could it cause the check engine light to go on?

my manual says to use dexron  coolant is very important in an engine a lake or to much coolant can cause overheating it also aids in lubricating some parts a lack of cooland can cause some seals and gaskets to breakdown and coase internal engine problems it's a good idea to check all fuilds once a week and top up as needed if there is excessive loss have it checked
