Mazda Repair: ignition switch, neutral safety switch, starter solenoid

Question
I have an 1988 RX7 and when you turn the key to start the engine then the starter does not run. The starter is new, I checked the fuses under the dash, and the main fuse in the engine compartment all seem fine.

I was wondering how I could check to see if the ignition switch is bad?  The headlights don't come on but the radion and other accesories come on but only after jiggling the key

Answer
You need to perform line by line circuit tests before you get into swapping parts or it may end up costing you.  The starter leads from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid is a good place to start.  If you have continuity there then you should be able to bypass the switch for testing purposes.  The clutch interlock switch must also be engaged for the car to start on a manual and the neutral safety switch must engage on an automatic.  If it is a manual check the interlock switch where it contacts the pedal arm, there should be a pad where it contacts it is known to break with age and affect the switch engagement.
