Volkswagen: 1990 Gulf - 1.8l gas engine Automatic Transaxle, automatic transaxle, auto electrician

Question
After starting my car and driving away, when I come to a stop, it jumps into neutral and after a second or two it jumps back into gear very roughly.
The problem always happens with heavy braking action as I come to a stop. If I use light braking action it doesn't always jump out of gear.
Once the engine reaches it's normal driving temperature the promblem is gone.
There appears to be no problem with the transaxle
while driving and shifts normally.

The problem appeared after the car "froze" while sitting in -40F temp. and would not start. I assumed that the fuel line had frozen. It took acouple of days to thaw out and have had no problem with starting since.

Thanks in advance  John

Answer
due to the extreme temperature, it is possible that some of the electrics have become damaged. i would enlist the assistance of an auto electrician to try to verify the problem. sorry i can't offer any other advice at this moment in time. if i can find any likely issues i will reply again to your message.
