Mazda Repair: Mazda 323 cv joint, cv joint, boot failure

Question
Hello,
I keep a pretty close watch on my 1987 323 wagon, and noticed today that the right front outer boot has split open.  It seems to be very recent, as the grease inside is still clean.  Is it acceptable in this case to simply replace the boot, or is it necessary to replace the entire axle if the boot has split open?  Thank you very much,  Bill.

Answer
Not in my area of expertise but, I never suggest replacing just the boot.  Aftermarket boots will never fit just right and if it has aged to the point of boot failure then the CV joint will not be far behind.  You can buy and axle assembly (remanufactured or possibly new) for around $165.  Change the assembly and it will keep on rockin'.
