Mazda Repair: Enginelighton&headlightsflashing, mazda tribute, luck chris

About 3 weeks ago, my "check engine" light came on.  Since then my vehicle attempts to stall when driving around downtown (at intersections) and just a couple of days ago someone informed me that my front headlights were flashing (like police lights would) except when I put the vechicle into park the flashing lights would stop.  Only while driving do the lights flash.  My engine's rpm's rev up and down while idling, which almost sounds like the engine will stall, but it doesn't (yet).  I drive a 2001 Mazda Tribute MX AWD.  I can provide more info if you need more.

Have someone preform an AVR test on the charging system,  A worn out regulator on the alternator can cause a condition like this, but not really with the idle problem, Get back to me after the AVR test.
