Mazda Repair: Brake & hub & bearing ?s, mechnic, disc brakes

Question
Hi Chris:
I am going to be putting on front disc brakes.  I noticed there are slim shims that are on either sides of the inboard/outboard pads.  The shims are not part of the pads. This may sound stupid but when I go to put on new pads do I put the disc quiet fluid on the back of the pads or do I put it on the back of the shims?  Do I even need to use disc quiet fluid or do the shims act as the noise reducers?  Also, my van needs  front hub & bearings.  Would it be easier to get a knuckle with the hub & bearing in it already from maybe a junkyard & put that back onto the van rather than trying to remove and replace the hub & bearing assembly from the knuckle that is on the van?  I am only going to be keeping the van for another year so I just want to get another hub & bearing on it so my tires won't wear out.  I hope these ?'s aren't too stupid. I am not a mechanic & am just trying to save some $$ so I can afford gas.  Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Eric thanks for asking. to start off with the brakes, those ships are required to go back in those stop the brake pas from moving around in the anchor, if you use the quitner then you use it on the back of the pads, but it is not necesary idf the pads some with the new stick on pads for the pads. Now for the hub and bearing i would NOT recomend getting one from the junkyard, it may even be cheper to pu a new one in if you want. You will just have to remove the hub yourself and get a local mechnic to press the old bearing out and press the new bearing in there is no way you will be able to do this on your won without the tools,
good luck
