Mazda Repair: Set timing, napa auto parts, liter car

Question
How do I set the timing in my 1997 mazda 626 2.1 liter car?

Answer
You would want to buy a book for that. A Chilton’s manual available at any NAPA auto parts would allow you to "read up" on it before you undertake something of that nature. However; unless you have broken a timing belt and are trying to put one back on you should not need to futz with the timing. Considering most car are never re-timed even with timing belt changes due to the little tricks we mechanics have come up with over the years.
So, tell me Tammy, are you timing the car to install a belt or a head gasket? Or, are you installing it because someone has told you that the timing is off and that’s why it doesn’t run right?
Get back to me on that and we might be able to find a less involved method of repair.
