Mercedes Benz repair: overheating, fan clutch, clutch

Question
Have a 380se 1985.  Car begins to overheat when stopped at a light etc. then cools down once i get going again.  What do you think I need to replace or fix?

Answer
change your fan clutch a good way to check it get it up to normal operating temp about 87 degrees then put a piece of cardboard on the fan if you can slow it down it is your fan clutch . Otherwise if you have an assistant get it up to normal operating temp and turn the car off.. watch the fan if it rotates maore than 2-3 times after you turn car off you clutch is gone. Sporatic changes area normal fan clutch problem as far as overheating the car runs or all MB run between 80-100 degrees the 2ndary fans kick on at 100. Change your thermostat too
