Mercedes Benz repair: Mercedes will not shut off when key is turned to off position, mb 300e, electrical portion

Question
QUESTION: My 93 MB 300E with a 2.8 engine sometimes will not shut off the engine when the key switch is turned to the off position. It has happened several times last week. The car has 176000 miles and otherwise runs great. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

ANSWER: when it does not shut off do the light stay on in the instrument cluster? Wiggle the key and see what happens. Circuit 15 is staying on. Possible electrical portion of ignition switch or feedback from overload protection relay.

The only way that this vehicle would stay running is with the fuel pump the engine control unit getting power. If you can remove the drivers underpanel. Then with the key i position 1 there is a black electrical plug  with a lot of cables attached. This is the ignition harness. In position 1 softly pull back on it and remove it . once you have accomplished this try an electrical portion. you just plug it in and turn it with a screwdriver.

Note; very important that it is not the mechanical part that is binding

Let me know.

QUESTION: Thanks Ralph for your help with the ignition switch problem. As I was removing the key switch with electrical part, I found out someone was in there prior to me and tried to do the repair. The black cover on the elecrical switch was missing and when I removed it, all of the seven wires came out of position. I realize the problem is the key switch, but now I need some kind of wiring diagram with the numbers and colors of the wires to reassemble onto the new switch. If you can continue to help, It is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob.
