Mercedes Benz repair: 95 SL600, control sensors, engine harness

inherited from husband and having major trouble, has 30Kmiles. The ASR light comes on periodically,loses power.1st mechanic said needs both R & L air control sensors rebuilt & possibly control too..$8,000 +. 2nd opinion said Mercedes has faulty wiring harness from 92 to 95,mine needs to be replaced,this could be problem with faults on the ASR system. Advice? Please,as you can tell I'm a lady who knows nothing about cars! Thanks, live near Charlotte,NC

Both mechanics are correct, and the price sounds correct.
The engine harness had major issues:

The bad harness generally burns out both electronic throttle units and the control module.
