Mercedes Benz repair: 1987 560SL starter replacement w/possibly buggered allen fastner (upper), allen bolt, cap head

Question
Original starter in car. At time. solenoid wouldn't engage flywheel. Took car to mechanic (who previously worked on other cars acceptably). He called to say he couldn't remove the starter without possibly removing the engine. Needless to say, I told him to reassemble and I would come and get the car. It now appears as though the allen bolt (hex opening where allen wrench is inserted) is stripped. Need to know if upper allen has nut or is threaded into block. I'm considering cutting head of allen w/torch. If you have any suggestions; would be greatly appreciated. I couldn't locate where to change the option, but would like for this to be posted.

Answer
Cut the Allen cap head, pull the starter away from transmission roughly 1/2 - 7/8 inch, cut the bolts where they thread into the starter body.

This is not easy = a major pain.

I have seen others burn the threaded ears off the starter = destroy the core value.
