Mercedes Benz repair: 1980 Mercedes Air Conditioning, correct diagnosis, r12

Question
This winter I purchased a 1980 Mercedes 300SD sedan that
is in excellent condition, but the air conditioning is not
working and I'm starting to want it. It turns on and blows
air, but not cold air. Should I have it recharged with R12 or
have it converted? What are the chances that it leaks
somewhere or needs other repairs? And if I buy some R12,
where is it added? I can't see where it goes. Thanks.

Answer
Have it leak checked.
Do not convert to 134A, very few people are happy, and it can not be converted back to R12.

If you do not work with these systems, please do not attempt charging.

It is possible the system does not work due to a bad switch, correct diagnosis will save you time/money.
