MG Car Repair: Wire Harness, hi doug, wire harness

I just bought a 1976 MG Midget which I should have checked a little closer. I have to replace the Main Wire Harness. I was told that some part of the Vin number identifies the exact Wire Harness. To be sure I get it right how does that work. Thanks in Advance

Hi Doug,
Any parts supplier will need the VIN number to ID the Car. But there is not a part of the VIN no. that IDs the harness. Sometimes a harness will change mid year and if so a VIN no. will usually ID the point of change. Also, some harness manufactures make minor changes in the design of a harness to make it fit more than one application but they usually note that in their instructions.
