MG Car Repair: slave cylinder, philips screwdriver, clutch master

Have a 1973 midget, getting ready to put new slave cylinder in ,,,, wanting any advise or trick of the trade to do this and the proper way to bleed it after installing

Question: I have a 1973 midget, getting ready to replace the clutch master and I have heard and read how hard it is to get a new one to bleed out all the air,, could you give me some ideas and the best way to do that ???

Answer: Hi Steve.  Yes, there is a trick to this.  Before you bolt the slave cylinder to the transmission, just let it hang vertically on its flexible hose.  Push the piston up into the cylinder with a Philips screwdriver (or your thumb) to expel any air upwards.  This works much better than using the bleed screw.  Make sure the master cylinder is topped up to the correct level afterwards.
