MGB Carburettor
Dear Barry,

Thankyou for your almost imediate reply. You asked if I have a USA car with all the American emission control equipment and a single Stromberg carburetter or have you converted to the UK specification with twin HIF4 SUs?  The answer is I have no idea, I have attached a photo herewith of the carburettor, can you advise from looking at the photo which one it is? Also where is the emission control equipment?
If it is the American I will get the UK one. The car now also has a starting problem which is definately related with the fuel availability. When the car is cold it can run for 15 minutes in a very smooth way then it starts to choke and jerk again and the problem gets worse with time, but there is no smell of fuel.
I hope you can help as I am in Italy and my mechanic here is at a loss as he is not familiar with this kind of carburetor.

Answer
Hi Andrea.  From the photo I can see that you have the USA single Stromberg carb with all the emission control stuff.  Personally, I would strip it all off and replace it with twin SU HIF4 carbs.

First thing you should do is to get a copy of the Moss Europe catalogue for the MGB.

The twin SU carbs (with all pipes and inlet manifold and air filters) can be bought second hand from a specialist MG breaker such as Andy Jennings.
