MG Car Repair: MG Midget brake lines, copper nickel, brake pipe

Question
Howard,

I have a 72 midget that has been in storage for 20 years and I am slowly restoring the hydraulic systems.  Do you recommend replacing the steel brake lines with the copper-nickel brake pipe set offered by Moss?

Answer
Hi Gus,
If your lines are badly rusted you should consider replacement lines. I can't comment on the lines from Moss as I have never tried them.

If stored for 20 years with DOT 5 fluid I would not expect to see the lines needing replacement. Don't take that as my endorsement of using DOT 5. Only storage. I recommend DOT 4 for use.
If you found rusty fluid in the lines I would advise you to replace the lines. Moss is a reputable company and you should call them and ask about the lines in question.
