MG Car Repair: Clutch pedal with overcentre spring, clutch pedal, spring stiffness


Question
When does a clutch pedal with overcentre spring(For semi-hyd system)does not retract back completely to it's original position??
Is it because the spring stiffness is less than required???
Please guide how to design a overcentre spring for such a clutch pedal

I presume you are asking about an MGB?

The clutch pedal and the brake pedal pivot about one long bolt.  The original spring is more than strong enough to return the pedal.  If the clutch pedal is not returning then the pedal is probably corroded onto the bolt.  You should remove the bolt, take out the clutch and brake pedals, clean and lubricate everything with grease, and then re-assemble.
 
Here is a diagram of the pedal box.  It only shows the brake pedal, but the clutch pedal is virtually the same:
