MG Car Repair: Rattle in Transmission, one hundred things, triumph spitfire

Howard, I recently bought a 1975 Midget that had set up for 7 years.  I have gotten it running, but there is a rattle when starting off in first gear. It sounds like it is coming from the transmission.  I do not hear it in the other gears.  I am wondering what you think this might be.

A rattle in the transmission is a symptom of only one hundred things. So you need to either let an experienced MG / Triumph Spitfire mechanic listen to it or remove the transmission and disassemble it to see what is making the noise.
