MG Car Repair: zenith carb 1980 mgb, zenith carb, combustion chamber

Question
I purchased a rebuild kit, new needles and have rebuilt the carb, but now the car will ideal but when I push on the accelerator I get nothing. The engine just continues to ideal. Can you give me some hints on what to check.

Answer
Hi Mitchell,
First thing to look at is to see if the throttle cable is connected up and opening the throttle.

When you open a throttle plate, it allows more air to enter the combustion chamber. If the carburetor is set too lean it will usually spit back out of the intake. If it is set too rich it will blow black smoke out the tail pipe. If nothing happens and it just sits there and idles, you didn't open the throttle. It may not rev up good either way but it will not just sit there and idle.
