Answer
Hi Paula
This may need a few attempts to fix.  You might be better off paying an auto electrician to trace the fault.

When you say it is dead, do you mean that the new battery has gone flat and you can only get it going again by jumping the battery?  If so, you have a major electrical fault which is draining the battery while you drive the car.  Either that, or your brand new battery is a dud, or the new alternator is a dud.  I would be very interested to know what voltage the battery is now putting out.  Can you check it with a hand-held voltmeter?  Alternatively, if you turn the headlamps on, do they shine brightly, and if you now turn the starter key, do they go a very dim yellow?

I have never found a good manual that shows where everything is on an MGB.  However, you can get a free catalogue from Moss.  It has 136 pages, and shows just about every component with a blow-up diagram.

The best manual for a 77-80 MGB is the MGB Repair Operation Manual, part number AKM 4070.  Moss sell them.

The Brown & Gammons website is also very good.  See:

Hope this helps
