MG Car Repair: Master Cylindre repair, brake master cylinder, flat blade

Question
I recently purchased a 1979 MG Midget and I am restoring it.
I purchased a Brake Master Cylinder repair kit and having some difficulties removing the piston out of the bore. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Hadi,
If you are referring to a white plastic ring just under the retaining clip that will not come out you need to take a small flat blade screwdriver and sharpen the blade and use a hammer to chisel it into small pieces to remove it. A new one comes with the repair kit. A rubber seal is just under the plastic ring and another retaining clip. From then on the rest should come out by banging the end of the cylinder down on a wooden block. Run a cylinder hone in the bore and put a strong light at the forward line port so you can examine the bore for pits as many cylinders are not rebuildable in a pitted condition and must be either replaced or sleeved by one of the companies that sleeve cylinders.
