MG Car Repair: headlight, jumper wires, chrome rim

Question
I have a 1976 MGB.  Sitting in the car, the right low beam head light is out, but the high beam works.  Is this an electrical problem, or do I just need to change out the whole headlight.  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Matt,
You need to pull the bulb out to test it or replace it.
The chrome rim is snapped on at the bottom but it is difficult to pry it off at the bottom so you need to pry it off as low as you can on the side. I usually put a piece of cardboard on the edge of the fender so as not to chip the paint and use a flat blade screwdriver to pry it off. Then it takes a Phillips screwdriver to remove the three screws that hold the bulb in.
Once you have the bulb out unplug it and with the use of two test jumper wires (one to ground and the other to a hot post) check the bulb. As I remember the center pin is common and each of the other two pins are the two beams.
If the bulb is good then you need a wiring diagram and a 12v test light or a volt meter and start tracing circuits back to the power supply.
