How do you remove the crome headlight ring on a 1977 MGB?

Hi Bob,
They just snap on and off but are hard to pry off so I usually put a piece of cardboard between the chrome and the body so when I use a large flat blade screwdriver and twist the screwdriver to pry it off, I don't mar the paint of the body.
