MG Car Repair: Fuel pump, mgb roadster, vent tubes

Question
Hi Howard.
I'm back with more questions on my 1977 MGB Roadster.
I'm replacing my fuel pump which is now a plastic bodied electronic type with a new Electronic SU style pump Neg. Ground. Both Moss & Victoria British carry them. I have no information on the hook up of them. I understand the inlet & outlets being outlet on top. Their is a flat electrical connector on the side of the pump body near the seal. I take it this is the ground. other is a small short tube. Is this a breather tube? The end of the pump has another electrical connecter( flat type) held on by a washer & nut. Positive connection? Above that is a small tube at 90 degrees to the back body. No idea what this is. I purchased a repair manual, but it only covers the plastic type pump.
Thanks again.
Bob

Answer
Hi Bob,
The SU pump has the ground spade on the body of the pump and power connection is the spade connector on the plastic cap end. The two tubes are just air vent tubes and were designed to have plastic hoses attached and run into the trunk to cut down on dirt and water from getting inside. If you have any doubt about the inlet and out let ports just put your finger over each hole and turn on the pump.
I hope this helps.
Howard
