MG Car Repair: car stalls, air leaks, car stalls

Question
I have 74 MGB total rebuild w/ Weber carb. Drive down road a mile or two, the car stalls and quits. Pull to side of road, hear fuel pump clicking and car restarts. Will run at low speed. Has new fuel filter and fuel pump. Seems to happen at acceleration when warmed up. Choke disengaged. HELP!

Answer
Hi Gerry,
Try removing the gas cap for a test run. If that is not the problem you may need to put a test light on the fuel pump wire so you can monitor it to see that it is constant.
Also check the line between the pump and tank for air leaks. If still nothing found take the tank line off of the pump and open the gas cap and blow compressed air into the line going to the tank. There may be something in your tank getting over the pick-up pipe. Let me know,
Howard
