Military Vehicle Repair: alternators, battery shop, accurate answer

Question
Van,thanks for all the info you gave me. I figured it out pretty easily. My alt.2 light comes on when I hit the key but the alt.1 light doesnt. Both alternators are charging at 14 volts now. I bought 2 new guages and hooked them up seperately. I disconnected the one that came with the truck on the top of the dash. Does that matter? In the morning I will check the alt.1 bulb in the dash,it was working last week prior to the meltdown. The battery shop said I should have 13.5 to 14.5 volts in them at all times. The other question I had was why does the driver alt. have a black wire that pushes onto a stud and the passenger doesnt? Is it because it is not grounded on the passenger side? By the way I figured out that the positive ground on the passenger side is where I had to hook up the new guage to read right(14.5 volts). Thank you for taking the time to look at your manual to get me an accurate answer,I ordered a manual this evening, should be here next week.

Answer
Unhooking that in dash volt meter won't make any difference.

That little push on stud on the left alternator....I remember it, but can't for the life of me remember what it is for....and the schematic doesn't even show it.

That bulb may be burned out.
