QuestionI recently acquired a 1984 M1008 I have read your answers on the electrical system my question is the relay under the dash that you refer to is it just a series paralell relay for the starter?
AnswerSeries paralell....Hmmm, I don't know.
What it does, is, use a 12 volt pullin coil to close a separate, and completely isolated set of contacts.
One side of those contacts is connected to 24 volt supply, and the other side goes to the starter solenoid.
That way, it uses the standard 12 volt truck starter switch to operate the 24 volt starter.
I am sure that just about any 12 volt relay would work, as long as the controlled contacts are isolated.
http://www.memphisequipment.com/ is a place where parts can be found for military vehicles, but almost everything on your truck is Chevy stock, except the 24 volt stuff.
