Mitsubishi Repair: Mass air flow sensor, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
Mass air flow sensor keeps tripping the check engine light.  I took it to the mechanic and he has now installed 4 new MAF sensors.  We know that the problem is something else now but cant figure out what it is.  He also replaced a relay switch.  Any ideas???

Answer
Robert,
The trouble codes that the car's computer is issuing should help.  If it just says points to a problem with the MAS, then you should make sure the connector on the MAS is making proper contact and the signals are within tolerance.  Checking other things like all the intake hoses and components (throttle body, ISC, turbo & intercooler (if applicable), etc) may help pin point the problem.  Older Mitsubishis (between '89-'95) were prone to having failing ECUs.  If the car's computer is malfunctioning, it may trip the check engine light with faulty codes.  It would be good to check for any damage there as well.
Good luck!
