I am trying to replace the turn signal bulb on my 2001 Mitsubishi Montero. It is the right front, I tried to pop it out through the hole where the wire goes through, doesn't fit. I believe I have to pull the head lamp assembly out but can't figure it out, can you please help??

I'm not familiar with the Montero's lighting system, so I'm afraid I won't be much help.  Most front indicator lamps do pop out to allow fo bulb replacements.  There may be a small screw or small pressure latch that you'll need to squeeze in order for it to pop through.  If you cannot do it, many times the folks at any major auto parts store (AutoZone, PepBoys, etc.) can offer further instructions and may even help perform the bulb change.
