Mitsubishi Repair: 2000 eclipse gt, crank case, shift linkage

Question
QUESTION: i recently bought a eclipse and it has a oil leak and i looked every where to see where it was coming from its coming from somewhere up top but its not the valve cover and it had three broken motor mounts i have replaced 2 i have one more to replace but when you put it in reverse it slams but when you put it in drive it doesnt do this but it makes a like creeping noise sounds like a shock or something can you help me out thanks

ANSWER: Robert,
Oil leaks can be tricky to track down.  Most mechanics can try to track down leaks by adding a special dye into the crank case, running the engine, and view the engine area under a UV light and special glasses.  The leak may be seeping from the head gasket or even being flung up from the crank seal.  The slamming in reverse can be caused by engine mount that still needs replacing.  Once it's replaced, see if that problem persists.  The creeping noise may be caused by a bad linkage bushing, bad ball joint, worn strut, or even a worn CV joint.  Inspect those items for signs of distress.
Good luck!

QUESTION: ok i have all new motor mounts and it still slams when you put it in reverse but only when the transmission heats up if i first start the car and put it in reverse it doesnt do it but when i drive it for a while and put it in reverse it then slams please help thanks

Answer
Robert,
Your transmission fluid may be low and/or very dirty.  If you have an automatic, check the ATF dipstick.  Since you bought it used, and it's 10 years old, it may be a good idea to have the fluid flushed and filled, and a new filter put in.  Also be sure to have your shift linkage inspected and adjusted if necessary.
Good luck!
