Mitsubishi Repair: 93 eclipse, engine oil pressure, low oil pressure

Question
I am losing oil pressure. when its cold it registers fine but once it gets warm it drops to nearly L i have replaced the sending unit(mine has 2 one for the light one for the gauge)i replaced both but now the bigger of the 2 is leaking around the tip.i was told the pump may be going bad resulting in my low oil pressure.is there a way to check the pump? it has 28000 miles on the car,new transmission and several other new parts.do u have any suggestions as to the problem yourself as what it might be?

Answer
Elizabeth,
The oil pump essentially is just a mechanical pump that's part of a sprocket and balance shaft.  There's no real way to test it, over than physically pulling it out and inspecting it.  You can also have a mechanic check the oil pressure at different points at the engine.  Oil pressure typically will appear to be lower when your car is warmed up and the engine is idling.  If your pressure appears to be normal when driving, then you should be fine.  Also be sure you are using the proper oil weight and that it's filled to the FULL line on your dip stick.  You can try to use 10W-40 oil to see if it helps.
Good luck!
