Mitsubishi Repair: 1992 Eclipse GSX turbo, eclipse gsx, engine configurations

Question
Transmission broke. Bought used one but it does not have the option to make it two or four wheel drive. Are the transmissions different? This came out of a 1995 model.

Answer
Jim,
The GSX is strictly an all-wheel drive vehicle.  You cannot switch between 2wd and AWD.  All-wheel drive transmissions accommodate a connection for the transfer case, where FWD models do not.  It will also matter if you have a manual and automatic tranny.  The first Eclipses came out in 1989 (the first generation) and went through 1994.  In 1995, the second generations came out and there were significant design changes between the generations; including engine configurations.  There were even engine design changes between the 1992 models made before and after April of 1992, so you may want to see if you can exchange that 1995 transmission you got for one that matches your car's configuration.
Good luck!
