Mitsubishi Repair: Re: Losing power, valve lifters, mitsubishi mirage

Question
How are you? I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage DE. there has been a clicking or popping sound coming from where the spark plug or distributor cap is and the car strugles to move off. i have change the plugs, plug wires and rotar brush but the clicking is still there and the car is still struggling to move off, you hear it when it's idling. what could be the cause of this ?

Answer
Dalton,
You may have clogged fuel injectors.  If they are not allowing the proper amount of fuel into the engine, it can cause performance problems and can get noisy.  Your problem may also be a result of a worn timing belt.  If the timing belt is off, that could cause your valves to tap on the piston heads.  If it's been more than 60,000 miles since you last timing belt change, you should have it done.

It's also possible you have a clogged valve lifters.  The can cause a lot of chatter.  This shouldn't cause too much performance problems unless they are extremely clogged.  You can have them removed and cleaned.
Good luck!
