Mitsubishi Repair: eclipse problem, sad cause, critical components

Question
ok so i was driving to San Diego from Sacramento and about 150 miles on the north side of LA my stereo's started to fizz out really bad and then just turned to static so i checked my deck and found that it was really hot so i opened my sun roof and held it up so it would cool then after it cooled i plugged it back in and waited about ten min and turned it back on. it turned back on but was playing really really low even though it shouldn't have then went to static again and died but this time just about all my electronics died with it. so now the car still runs and everything but the stereo, internal lights, clock, and automatic locks don't work! i don't know what to do and it's making me sad cause i love that car :(

Answer
Chris,
This can be your car's way of warning you that your battery and alternator are about to die completely.  Your car will channel all the electricity to the most critical components of the car, and turn off non-critical components like the radio and other internal lights.  I would recommend having your mechanic test the alternator and battery, and replace them both if necessary.
Good luck!
