Mitsubishi Repair: engine ticking, knock sensor, autozone

Question
I have a 2004 mitsu endeavor an just a few days the check engine light came on but the car was running fine so i thought nothing of it, but it never turned back off so i started getted paranoid an listening to the car an such an found that it seems that the engine is making a much louder then average ticking sound... what could this be?

Answer
Eric: Don't worry so much but then you guys and your cars.... :o)
What happen is the computer has found a problem in the system so it kicked on that light. As to go get this checked please. If you can hear that ticking sound, it might be nothing really, could be one of the sensors that should be controling this is not working. As for that light, your car is new enough as to have a knock sensor and they do go out pretty easily. I would get the car in and get it coded to find out what the computer has found as your problem. AutoZone if you have one of those places will even do this for free as to the coding. Either way find some shop or dealership to get this read and find out what the computer is trying to tell you here. And take it easy. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
