Mitsubishi Repair: 95 mitsubishi eclipse rs, valve seals, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
my car is burning oil and the exhaust smoke is white and smells really bad. how can i fix the oil buring problem? i did the head gasket already and my car is not leaking oil anymore. i also have an other problem. i recently changed my engine computer because my original computer used to set false codes and stall the engine. now with the new computer the car would slip into netural at high rpms making the car rev like you put it into neutral but it is in drive. it would basically go up to 3000 rpms then slip out of gear and rev until it finally switches. sometimes the check engine would come on when it doesn't switch in to gear for like a minute. the car would basically chock and then it would jump into gear causing whiplash. what can i do to fix this problem? i replaced the engine computer twice with refurbished ones from the dealer. plus the new engine computer has a rev limiter. my car has 86000 miles on it.

Answer
Kevin,
For your burning oil problem, this is probably caused by worn valve seals and valve guides.  Worn piston rings can also cause burning oil.  The only way to remedy this is to do a head rebuild or replacement.

The problem with your engine slipping into neutral when revving at higher RPMs is a more difficult issue to diagnose.  Your new engine computer may not be communicating properly with your transmission computer.  For this, you may want to have a transmission shop inspect your tranny computer and your tranny in general.  Sorry I couldn't be much help on this one.
Good luck!
