Mitsubishi Repair: Intermittent failure of Speedo/Tacho/Fuel Guage, fuel guage, resistance levels

Question
After I leave my Lancer in the hot sun for any length of time my speed/tach/fuel guages cease to operate.  After I place the car into shade for a period of time they resume normal function.  Any ideas please?

Answer
Kristy,
This can happen when the sensors that control your gauges get overheated.  As wiring and electrical components get hotter, the resistance in the circuit becomes greater and greater.  This can cause the signal to be blocked; preventing the gauges from working properly.

This may be caused by one failing electrical component or possible multiple ones that are getting too warm.  You may want to have a mechanic check the resistance levels across the fuses and relays that are responsible for controlling power to the gauges.  This may be a simple and inexpensive fix.
Good luck!
