Mitsubishi Repair: 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse Belts, Pump, Pulley, crank shaft, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
I'm trying to verify the cost of replacing the crank shaft pulley, necessary belts, the timing belt and water pump.  I believe the quote ($1,200) I've been given is fair from what I have seen on the web, my ex-husband (who's responsible for these costs) thinks I should be getting a water pump for $40 but doesn't have an answer for the labor.  I expect labor on these items is double the cost of the parts and the parts aren't inexpensive.  While I'm waiting on this repair, my 18-year old daughter has the family car at college and I need it back! Any help you can provide would be most appreciated.

Answer
Jane: This is an exhusband any amount would be to much for him. I do not think you could get a water pump for $40.00 unless you bought a used one off a junked car and you do not want that. If he thinks he can find it cheaper than let him try but he needs to be told that it has to be new. Or else call around to some shops and see what they tell you. I do not know your area but parts and labor for these little cars are costly. I should most likely bow out on this but I think I would have the 18 year old daughter be walking not her hard working mother. Ok, sorry but I have been divorced too and I know the woes of working with an exhusband. Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
