Answer

gm ignition switch
Hi Mike:

Sorry about your truck.
The most popular part that fails the way you described is the ignition switch.  This is the electrical part, not the key part
We have recently uploaded pages and a description of how to replace the multi-switch on GM vehicles.  Most of the steps are the same for the ignition switch as it's the switch mounted beneath the lock when you take the covers off.  The rest of the replacement is pretty much the same.  YOU WANT TO BE VERY CAREFUL OF THE RED 4_WAY SWITCH.  If that breaks off trying to take the covers of, it'll cost you another $325 for the mu8ltiswitch.  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions. Here is a link to that page.

I hope these instructions help you.  If not, please contact me again for more information.
Lastly, I would pick up the switch before you begin, so you see what you are replacing and how it goes together.

Good luck
Doug
