Mitsubishi Repair: loud engine, chrysler sebring coupe, chrysler sebring

Question
I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring Coupe with a mitsubishi engine.  Recently when I accelerate the engine sounds very loud and rough. It seems to get a tiny bit better when it warms up but not much.  It seems to run ok but I am worried there is something seriously wrong with it.  I took it to a mechanic and they heard the loudness of the engine but said they could not find anything wrong except new brakes and battery were needed and sway bar replaced underneath and to bring it back if it continues.  Well it has not gone away.  The car has 75,000 miles on it.  While still under warranty about a year and half ago the transmission went and I had to take it to a Chrysler dealer for them to rebuild the engine.  It was fine until now with the loud engine upon accelerating especially when cold.  Thanks for any suggestions on this.  Two kids in college and can't afford a new car right now.

Answer
Fran,
This could be as simple as dirty or insufficient amount of engine oil.  In the winter, your oil pump needs to work harder pump cold oil around.  As the oil heats up, you will notice the noise subsides.  Make sure you're using the proper weight of oil and amount during your next oil change.  And be sure to change and check it regularly.
Good luck!
