Mitsubishi Repair: Outlander 2003 recall complete still overheats, fan motor, autozone

Question
I recently had my 2003 Outlander serviced under the fan controller recall.  I have 101,000 miles.  Prior to the repair I did have problems with the fan motor shutting off.  My car overheated 2 x and I took it for the recall service.  After the service I sat idle in the car to see if the car would overheat again,  it did!  Shouldn't the recall module fix the problem with the fan motor?  As the car heated up the fan never engaged.  The dealership said that they satisfied the recall I would have a run a $90 diagnosic check to determine what was wrong and why the car continues to overheat and the fan motor does not engage while the car is heating up....Can you explain what may be going on?

Answer
KN: Yes that recall should have fixed the problem, but of course the dealership had to do that all for free and so this is their way of getting some of the missed money back. If you got an AutoZone close by, go into there and have them code your car for free. Or else go someplace else to get that coding done, do not pay the dealership to code the car. If you find out the problem is in those fans or a sensor which that recall should have fixed. Then you need to go after that dealership. Are you even sure they did the work they said they did? Can you tell if anything looks different on your car? How much do you trust this dealership? You might check on your own and see if you have a relay out that controls the fan motors. Or the fan motor switch might be bad too. But I tell you I would not go back to that dealership if this is how they are going to treat you. Yet, you should have the car coded to see if there might be a bad sensor, if not then have that relay and switch checked. Oh I so hate how some shops treat people! Hope this helps and God bless: Linda
