Mitsubishi Repair: scratching idle sound, mitsubishi eclipse gs, mitsubishi eclipse

Hi, I have a 1998 mitsubishi eclipse gs. For some reason my car started making this scratching sound like something was inside my engine being knocked around or something. but whats wierd is it will cut in and out. it will make the sound, then stop for a second or two then it will start scratching again. And also, I have a problem when i brake going over 40mph my whole car vibrates. enough to make my cd player skip alot. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Eric: I would check the motor mounts to see if any of those are loose. Then has the timing belt ever been changed on this car. You know don't you if the timing belt goes when driving the car, it will take the valves in the engine. So I would think about getting that changed. You might have the car coded to see if the computer might kick something out at you. Got an AutoZone close by? They would code the car for free. Another thing would be to have the car tires balanced, you might have a tire that is not round or a bent rim. I would say you need to get the car into a shop and find out the this problem.
