Mitsubishi Repair: warning lights illuminate when ascending or descending, alternator failure, mitsubishi montero

Question
I own a 1996 Mitsubishi Montero 3.5 V6. I am realising that my battery light and A/T light come on simultaneously when I ascend or descend while driving. Usually it happens when it rains heavily. It blinks for a while and then stops.I must state here that the tire inflator monitor on my dashboard has one of the lights on permanently and I was told by the former owner that it was due to a fault in the dash. I am wondering whether there is a faulty wiring or it is really an indication that both my A/T and battery ( alternator) are in need of repair.
Any help on the above would be appreciated.

Answer
The A/T light is connected to the L terminal of the alternator, that is how it get's the "light prove-out" when the key is first turned on (the warning lights come on and then back off when started). When the alternator fails to charge adaquately, the battery and A/T light both come on. Typical of Mitsubishis and they have a pretty good alternator failure rate. I would have the electrical system checked. Be sure to have them check it when/where the problem occurs such as a very humid day and under the conditions that it occurs, otherwise they will tell you that they can't find the problem. Keep in mind that the system uses a charge relay and that could be the problem, along with the usual wiring and alternator possible causes.
