Mitsubishi Repair: trans., clutch master cylinder, clutch disc

Question
I just got a 91 eclipse GS turbo front wheel drive, it has 230,000miles on it. the car is in great condition theres just two major issues that im dealing with. everytime i shift into 1st gear it always pops out and i have to be at almost a complete stop to shift into 2nd gear with out it grinding bad same with reverse. i have to start out in second gear to go. the other thing is when im excelrating and the rpms hit about 3600 between shifts the whole car kinda dies out like it doesn't want to go. so i have to speed up slow almost so the turbo doesn't spool up. so i don't know if i have to rebuild the Trans and replace the clutch or what any info will help allot THANK YOU

Answer
Matt: You need to go to a parts store and buy yourself a repair manual for that car. It would explain how to check out things to do with the transmission. You need to check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder. As the car could be super low on fluid, you know that the clutch in that car is run with hydaulic, so your car might be low on that fluid which is a kind of oil. Or you could have broken a hose someplace in the system. With that repair manual it would walk you through things to check. I can give you some ideas and this is from my repair manual... faulty transxle, faulty clutch disc, release lever and bearing not assembled properly, faulty pressure plate, pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts loose. You could take the car to a transmission shop and have them check it over for you. But if you had got that repair manual for your car, you would be able to understand what they were talking about and know if they were trying to get you to buy something you really did not need. There is also on the floor there is a way to set the height and freeplay of the clutch pedal. It is to be done every 6000 miles or 6 months, here is betting that has not been checked in a long while. So you could check that too, it might help with the shifting. Well I hope some of these things help you and God bless: Linda
