Question
My eclipse as 109,000 mi. I drove i from clorado t AZ. During the trip as i would increase the RPM to 3-5, the car would star to overheat, this haped especially while I would drive up hills. around town, and on downhill portions of the trip with the PM around 2-3, it would run around half between cool-Hot. it usually runs about 1/4 between Cool-Hot. no water or coolant on groud. no smoke out of the tail pipe. nd it is not loosing coolat. How do i know whih comonent to change.

Answer
Roger: I would check the water pump to see that might need to be replaced but also you should have the thermostat checked too. As it might be stucked closed and so the water is not moving around the engine as it should. So it is not cooling. One other thing I would change the radiator cap; does it have the right grade and the right amount of coolant in the system? My repair manual also says to check the radiator core as it might be blocked or grille restricted, blades on the fan or fans might be broken or cracked. So here is some ideas to check.
