Mitsubishi Repair: 1994 mitsubishi Galant Starter malfunction???, mitsubishi galant, bad hope

Question
QUESTION: Everytime I go to start the car, It will not turn over. I can turn it to where the lights work but will not click over to start. Starter does not click over and does not wined. Car does work! We have drivin it! but once we turned it off we could not get it back on because of the reasons above.

ANSWER: Misty & David: I would start with replacing the starter, it sounds like it is bad. How bright are the lights when you turn them on? You might need a different battery too, also check the cables on the battery they have to be very tight. But still it sounds like a new starter is in order for your car. You got an AutoZone close by? If you take the starter off the car and take it to a AutoZone they will test the starter to see if it is bad. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda

QUESTION: okay thanks for the help. looking into the vehicle more in detail i found out that the starter is very hot after the vehicle is been sitting for a few hours. also i checked it with a volt meter and found out the starter was still getting power to it with the verhicle in the off postion. this is makin me very confused because the car started up before but it was a pain to do so sometimes. so do you still think it might be the starter, do you also think that the starter burnt up because of current flow to it, and might there be something wrong in the electrical system that would cause the starter to still receive current?

ANSWER: Misty & David: I wonder if the starter was replaced before you got the car, or did you get the starter replaced sometime. As I think the starter is not hooked up right, so it is getting power from the battery even when the car is shut off. You best get the car to a shop and have it checked over. Because something is not right here and you could end up with a fire. Hope this helps and good luck! Linda

QUESTION: okay thanks for the help on that guestion i just have one more. now when turning over the ignition i have to giggle the key several times just right in order to get the vehical started. is the ignition switch bad or the ingnition cylinoid or both.

Answer
Misty & David: It sounds like the switch is getting bad. I would try the switch and if you still have the problem then do the other. Without seeing the car and so getting a feel for it. All I can do is guess. I hope this helps some and good luck! Linda
