Mitsubishi Repair: 1999 Misubishi Eclipse GS, misubishi eclipse, power door locks

Question
The battery has been dying after 4-6 days of non-use. The battery was replaced with a new one, alternator was checked and OK and the system was checked for shorts and drains by my mechanic but is still happens. The new battery was replaced and we noticed that the positive post was leaking acid. Ran the car for 10 mins and then left it for 6 days to see if it would work but it died again. The only other electrical thing I could think of is that the power door locks stopped working sometime before this. I checked to make sure all electrical things were off before it was left. There was no apparent things left on. Looking for help...extremely frustrated...thank you

Answer
Ike: I can only give ideas there, but there has to be a short someplace. Something you are missing, I know this is bad when it is happening to your car. You had the alternator checked and it was ok. Why not get a new alternator and see what happens, are you sure the alternator is hooked up right? All the wires hooked to the right places? Mechanics do get busy and do mess up at times. If the power doors stopped working at the same time, you could have a short in those doors someplace. Can you hear anything happening when you hit the lock button in the car? Wait a minute have you checked the relays? Or the larger fuse inside with the engine. There should be two or maybe three black boxes in with the engine. In them are relays and larger fuses. Could be there is a bad relay someplace and it is letting power kill off your car's battery. Sometimes things like dirt, sand, water and even animals(small ones) will get into the doors mess with the wiring. If something with the door locks is now touching the body, it could cause problems. So the door locks don't work, maybe there is a relay that should have closed but did not and so power is being pulled from your battery. So you should check those relays, also it would be to have a second mechanic to check things over and see what he or her finds. Nothing against your first mechanic but sometimes others can find things that someone else missed. Like when you are sick, one doctor says you got 6 months to live. Would you not go see another doctor to see what he or her would tell you? Hell I would. Something has to be pulling power from that battery. Let me do some checking on the positive post was leaking acid. That is tell me something but I can not put my finger on it but I shall get back to you in a few days. Mean while check those relays and maybe you should get your mechanic to check those door locks to see that shows you if anything.Might have the car coded, it might kick out something from the computer as to what the problem is. Well just a though. Hope this helps some and good luck! Linda
