Mitsubishi Repair: Whats the part called?, eclipse gs, gears

We have a 1997 ECLIPSE, GS, 2.0, manual.  The shifter just moves back and forth.  It will not change gears (broke while car was in 2nd).  It happend once before and I was able to put the "pin" back in, but this time the "pin" isn't there.  I have no idea what the part is called that I need.  It looks like it's rolled steel.  Any idea what I am talking about?  LOL  If so, what's the part I need called?  Thanks, Rick
