Mitsubishi Repair: 99 galant problem, napa logo, power steering pump

Question
I dont know how old this forum is but maybe you can help me with this problem. i just finished 9 months of training for the army, so i wasn't able to have my car, i loaned it to my parents and they drove it for a lil over a month and i came home on leave to find that there was a knocking noise. my harmonic balancer was shot beyond belief and was held by a thread basically put. well my brother replaced the harmonic balancer for me as a wedding gift and now that i need the vehicle to report to my duty station it won't fire. the only thing he see's as a problem right now is that the power steering pump sensor was corroded and broke and he is replacing that tomorrow, two of the four cylinders are firing two are not, there not even getting fuel i guess. would you say this is a computer problem relating to the psp sensor? the timing belt didn't slip it is brand new looking and has a napa logo on it. any info on this would help greatly as i need my vehicle to report or they will be sending MP's to pick me up lol. thank you.

Jonathan.

Answer
Jonathan: Have you ever had the car coded? That is where they check your computer and all it's sensors with their computer. This will kick out any problem in the system. The computer controls all those things in your car, it is for some reason not sending enough fuel to two cylinders. You should try to replace the distrbutor, as in that is a sensor that controls the firing on the cylinders. But then the sensor is only as good at the computer. You know don't you that Mitsubishi farmed out the building of their computers to another company. But that company did not build very good ones, with time a piece will start to leak into the computer and then it will kill off the computer. So I could have that computer checked just to rule out such a problem. I would also check the timing belt to make sure it did not move, even a little bit will cause these little cars problems. I know the last timing belt I put in, it took me three trys to get it set right. So I would check that though you said it didn't slip it could have. Brand new looking it still could be off the marks. I do hope that the MP's don't come looking for you and that you get your car running. Take it easy on that new wife too. I shall keep you both in my prayers! Linda
